A Greenfield Project
Hungary's first biomass-fuelled power plant built as a Greenfield investment was inaugurated on 27th August 2009. The factory located by Szakoly (eastern Hungary) generates 20 MW of electricity from renewable, arboreal and locally produced raw materials (called "green power").
The stock of the biomass - some 170,000-180,000 tonnes a year - is produced on energy plantations established for this express purpose; in addition wastes unsuitable for other purposes can be purchased from neighbouring forestry's, sawmills and husbandries. Electricity will be transferred to the national grid and heat energy will be used by a local bio-horticulture.
The investment is estimated to raise employment opportunities in the region. The power plant will have a 55-strong staff and further 200 positions will open to produce, process and transport biomass. The above-mentioned bio-horticulture will also create another 100-150 jobs.
Several member companies of ELME Industrial Group participated at the Szakoly Biomass Power Plant project:
- EL&ME Control Engineering Ltd.
- Vegyterv IS Industrial Solutions General Contractor Company
- TMK-Automatika Industrial Service and Trading Ltd.
- Vegyterv Chemical Engineering and Contracting Company
The complete electrical and control system of the South-NyĂrsĂ©g Biomass Power Plant was implemented by EL&ME Ltd., from the design engineering, manufacturing of the low voltage switchboards, up to the installation and commissioning works.
EL&ME coordinate the design engineering, licensing and installation works of the high voltage connection between the power plant and the 10/120 kV substation, as well as the necessary high voltage cabling activities of the auxiliary system of the power plant. The related works of the process control system and the instrumentation activities, as well as the software application development of the DCS system was realized by the TMK-Automatika Ltd.
